Summer Registration Information

SEM Magic is offering places for boys and girls across U8 to U21 age groups, competing in local competitions at four associations:

✨ Frankston & District Basketball Association (FDBA)
✨ Chelsea & District Basketball Association (CADBA)
✨ Western Port Basketball Association (WPBA)
✨ Morington District Basketball Association (MDBA)

Summer 2024/25 competitions commence October 2024, running through Term 4 & 1, excluding school holidays.

Available competition days:

🏀 U8 Boys & Girls (2018/17) = Saturday & Monday
🏀 U10 Boys & Girls (2016/15) = Saturday & Monday
🏀 U12 Boys & Girls (2014/13) = Saturday & Tuesday
🏀 U14 Boys & Girls (2012/11) = Saturday & Wednesday
🏀 U16 Boys & Girls (2010/09) = Monday & Wednesday
🏀 U18 Boys (2008/07) = Monday & Thursday
🏀 U18 Girls (2008/07) = Monday & Wednesday
🏀 U21 Boys (2006-04) = Thursday

One of the unique benefits of our club is multi-game / competition options. For example, an U14 female player can play games on Saturday and Wednesday, while having just one training session per week.

Squad Training Explained

SEM Magic offers a distinctive Squad-Based Training system, setting us apart from other clubs. Teams participate in collective training sessions across multiple courts. Coaches from each team collaborate to deliver a unified and consistent development program. This approach allows players to develop at their own pace while becoming familiar with the club environment, players, and coaches.

New for the Summer 2024/25 Season, our Five-Tiered Progression System:

ROOKIE SQUAD
✨Primary Age Groups: U8 teams, entry-level U10s
✨Focus: Introduction to basketball fundamentals

FRESHMAN SQUAD
✨Primary Age Groups: U10 teams, advanced U8s, entry-level U12s
✨Focus: Development of fundamentals, introduction to transition offense, player roles

SOPHOMORE SQUAD
✨Primary Age Groups: U12 teams, advanced U10s, entry-level U14s
✨Focus: Player roles, introduction to team offense, defensive principles

JUNIOR SQUAD
✨Primary Age Groups: U14 teams, advanced U12s, entry-level U16s
✨Focus: Team offense, SEM Magic “style of play,” building team principles

SENIOR SQUAD
✨Primary Age Groups: U16+ teams, advanced U14s
✨Focus: Expansion and development of all individual and team-based principles of play

Training Sessions and Schedule

All training sessions are held at Jubilee Park Stadium (Frankston). Days and times for each team/squad will be announced shortly after team selections. We anticipate the following training schedule:

✨ Tuesday: 4:15-5:15pm & 5:15-6:15pm
✨ Thursday: 4:00-5:00pm & 5:00-6:00pm
✨ Friday: 4:15-5:15pm & 5:15-6:15pm

Please note that days and times are indicative and subject to change based on program size and venue availability.

Team Selections

Players are allocated to teams and training squads in accordance with our Player Development: Team & Squad Selection policy. The criteria for selection includes (but is not limited to) the following:

Playing in the correct age group based on year of birth aligns with the club principles for long term player development and retention. Unless discussed and approved prior, all players will be placed into correct competition based on their age.

Squad Trials

All players, new and returning, must attend a madatory trial selection session to assist with team allocations.

Summer 2024/25 Trials Information:

U8 and U10 Age Groups:
✨ Sunday 22 September
✨ 1hr session between 9:30am-11:30am

U12, U14, U16 and U18 Age Groups:
✨ Friday 20 September
✨ 1hr session between 5:30pm-8:30pm

All trials are held at Jubilee Park Stadium. Times for each age group will be confirmed approximately 1 week prior.

Summer 2024/25 Fees

Our single fee model covers team registration, match fees (inc. finals), court hire, social function, coaching and administration.

SEM MAGIC CLUB FEE:
💲 Full Season Fee = $419
💲 Second Game Fee = $259

Registration fees are generally non-refundable. Members are expected to understand the terms & conditions under which a return, exchange or refund can be made, available here: Club Policies

COMPETITION & ASSOCIATION FEES:
💲 BV License = $29 per player (17yrs and under)
💲 BA Levy = $5.50 per player
💲 PlayHQ Service Fee = 1.89%

All players must have current Basketball Victoria (BV) Participation License & Basketball Australia (BA) Participant Fee (Game Development Levy) For more information about these fees visit BV Website

Payment Plans & Financial Aid

We are pleased to introduce PayPal Pay in 4 through PlayHQ, allowing members to spread their fee payments over four fortnightly installments. We encourage all members to use this service to pay their fees in full.

However, if you are facing extenuating financial circumstances we can provide two levels of support:

✨ PAYMENT PLANS
You may apply for a payment plan to help manage costs. Families seeking a payment plan must complete the Payment Plan Application form by Sunday 8 September.

✨ SCHOLARSHIP FUND
If you still find it difficult to meet the financial obligations, the Ray White Scholarship Fund is available to support families in need. Applications for the scholarship fund are open until Sunday 1 September. For further information visit: Scholarship Fund Information & Application
