The South East Melbourne (SEM) Development League Skills Academy is designed specifically for domestic-level players seeking additional training and faster skill progression.
This program provides a structured development pathway, supporting players as they transition from domestic basketball toward higher levels of competition. It is ideally suited to U10 and U12 players who are motivated to improve, build confidence, and develop the fundamental skills required to succeed.
Through quality coaching and a focus on core skill development, players will be challenged, supported, and guided as they work towards their long-term goal of competing in representative basketball, including the Victorian Junior Basketball League.
Program Overview
The D-League Skills Academy program is built to strengthen the core skills every player needs to succeed, with a strong focus on individual fundamentals. Whether you’re new to the game or looking to sharpen your edge, this program emphasizes the key building blocks of basketball:
🏀 Ball Handling: Improve control, confidence, and creativity with the ball in your hands through structured dribbling and decision-making drills.
🏀 Passing: Develop precision and vision to deliver accurate passes in a variety of game situations.
🏀 Footwork: Build a solid base for every part of your game—speed, balance, agility, and movement both with and without the ball.
🏀 Shooting: Refine technique, accuracy, and shot selection to become a consistent scoring threat.
Player Eligibility
Our Skills Academy is a natural extension of the SEM Magic squad training environment and playing principles, providing an ideal next step for players looking to accelerate their development beyond domestic competition.
While it strongly complements the SEM Magic program, Skills Academy is open to players from all clubs within the relevant age groups who are seeking additional training and structured development opportunities.
This program is best suited to players with at least 2 seasons (approximately 12 months) of domestic basketball experience, a solid understanding of the game, and a genuine readiness to improve their work rate, consistency, and overall skill level.
